JAY THREET NAMED 2001 AMERICAN LEGION PLAYER OF THE YEAR

On September 4, 2001 the American Legion National Baseball Committee announced

that Jay Threet was the American Legion Player of the Year for 2001.

This award has been in existence for 76 years.  Jay is the second Michigan player to receive this outstanding award.  He has had a very impressive career with Post 275, posting a batting average of .403 with 108 hits.  Jay was also very successful on the mound with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses.  His ERA was 3.31 in 101 innings, giving up just 48 earned runs, walking 51 and striking out 117 batters.  

This award carries a total of $4000 in scholarship funds.  To put this award in perspective, there were 5300 teams this year in legion ball representing 95,000 players.  According to Pam Threet, Jay's mother, she was so excited when she received word that she could not sleep that night.  

Jay will be a guest at the 2002 induction ceremonies at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, as well as a guest at the annual American Legion Convention held this year in Indianapolis, Indiana.
